Yes thats true, if you clear the code then they will have an excuse not to work on it,  They will say if it aint broke they cant fix it If it happens again dont clear the codes. It sucks to read of all these problems. The only thing with my truck is brake dust. The only way of eleminating that is to go with a ceramic pad, however it takes them a long time to make available some aftermarket parts for the new vehicle.I can tell a sory of how i solved a problem with a brand new crown vic i purchased a few yrs back. After a few thousand miles the ring and pinion started to make noise, after taking the service manager and a salesman for a drive so they could hear the hum, after the ride both of them said they didnt hear ah=nything abnormal. I knew what it was so i took the car to a ring and pinion shop to check the tolerances, and of coarse it was out of specs. I took the car back to the dealer along with the paper work from the ring and pinion shop and then their argument was blown out of the water. The end result they replaced the whole rearend. Yes it cost me 125 bucks but they spent over a thousand to make it right. MY point is sometimes justice is not always free. Also you must remember they work by the book on the amount of time they wll spend trying to solve a problem. When they reach that limit work will stop workuntill the manufacture allows more time. better luck next time...

UPDATE:
Dealership is waiting for a gasket to install the Catalytic converter.
i agree it may be more difficult to diagnose without the code--but how
difficult is it to diagnose me standing there in person and telling the
service guy "the code was Crankshaft Sensor Malfunction!"

I expect that the engine failure episode I had may have damaged the
Cat. However, I am crazy in thinking how ridiculous it is for them to
send me back out on the road KNOWING that their is something
seriously wrong--a condition that causes my truck to SHUT DOWN
while driving 70 mph!!! Should I call them from the ambulance or
wait until I get to the hospital?

Here is a bit of irony. Because my truck has been there a full WEEK
now, I demanded a rental truck. The offered a free car. I have plenty
of cars--I need a truck. Finally they agreed to pay for a rental truck.
Guess what I got? A 2005 Ford F-150 4x4 crew cab!
Lets hope I don't fall in love.

Im a warranty adminastrator for bmw, i pretty much decide if it's a warrtiable repair or customer pay--for you to clear the fault code and it not come back its not a sold state code--does not retrun immediatly means you have an intermittant signal problem in your sensor--trust me we see it all the time in the 325's give it a week or so the fault will come back--and if not your lucky it ussaly takes 7-10 repeats of a fault code to turn on a check engine light or service engine light soon on.  so if it's a bad part trust me it will be back--and about the little cheap code reader  yes it can clear the f/c--next time you go to nissan ask to talk to a service rep if they decline. trust me they will help and if that doesnt help ask for a factory service rep to call you.

Thanks BMWTitanMan for your comments.
I agree with everything you said....except, i did not take my truck in
just because the light came on. I experienced very real engine
malfunction that caused my truck to just quit while driving down the
highway. More than once! No code is needed to reveal the
seriousness of that problem.

I did get my truck back today, and have about 10 miles on it with no
problems yet. Hopefully it was a fluke.

BTW: my other car is a 99 M Coupe, so I know a thing or two about
working on BMW's as well! Interestingly, I have an intermitent check
engine light on that car--but have not been able to diagnose anything
yet.
Thanks for all the input

I HAVE AN 04 TITAN AND YES IVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM.  LUCKILY I DID NOT CLEAR THE CODE OUT AND TOOK IT IN FOR REPAIR.  THE DEALERSHIP HAD IT ONE DAY AND POPPED A NEW SENSOR IN AND NOW THE TRUCK IS FINE.  HOPE YOU HAVE SOME LUCK AND MAYBE THE LIGHT WILL REAPPEAR SO YOU CAN GET IT FIXED.  GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!
