I just had my brakes fixed yesterday. They performed the TSB, which only included re-surfacing the existing rotors (and new brake pads, torque members, etc). After a short test drive, the mechanic felt a vibration returning. They then replaced the rotors with new ones. Brakes feel outstanding now.
BTW, they also performed two recall repairs (I was never notified by mail of these) on the transmission and rear seat belts.
Also BTW, this was the second dealer to blow off my issue with acceleration. The power delivery of this truck is not smooth at all. Nissan needs to take a look at this, as I have not seen this with "American" P/Us. They should:
- Stiffen up the mechanical portion of the accelerator pedal. It is way too sensitive, especially when you are bouncing around off-road
- Work on "Instant" Throttle Response. There is certainly a delay of 1/2 to 1 second from depression of the loud pedal and rpm change. My Silverado didn't do this, Nissan. Don't tell me this is a good thing.
- Work on "Passing Gear" Acceleration. Occasionally, on two-lane roads, I've stepped out to pass, nearly floored it, only to have my Titan say WTF? way too long before making up it's mind that I need to go - NOW. My Silverado didn't do this, Nissan. Don't tell me this is a good thing.

I'm glad some of you are getting rotors replaced as well as calipers. My dealer must be at the bottom when it comes to new information. Had them resurfaced once and is doing it again. They don't seem to have any knowledge of Nissan replacing calipers and rotors. I'm starting to get irritated.

Bigbear, there was a TSB issued back in November (Ithink) on the brake issue. If your dealer isn't aware I probably woudn't want them working on my truck.

Would that TSB include replacing the calipers and rotors? Or, is that TSB for turning down the rotors using a on the vehicle lathe and replacing some hardware i.e. screws and shims? If that is the TSB you are refering to, I have had it done already.

In my case, my Nissan Dealer found the rotors to be questionable after the on-vehicle resurfacing, during a test drive. The TSB does mention the possibility of replacement of the rotors, but only based on thickness under 24.5mm. It didn't mention failing a road test.
There is nothing better than a Service Department that wants to do what is right. I believe mine could have sent me along with my 'turned' rotors, but my mechanic must have known I'd be back, and I wouldn't be happy if this problem re-ocurred.

Just to clarify, I have had three sets of new rotors and one re-surface. I am on the 4th repair and a fifth needs to be done. However, I have pretty much stopped driving the truck. I have an arbitration hearing pending. I nor my wife feel safe in the truck, so we are just stck waiting to see what the BBB will decide as far as a buy-back.

Is this brake problem just a 2004 model problem or is the 2005 also having the same problem? I have a 2005. Thanks

My understanding is that it has been mostly on the 04's but some of the 05's are starting to have the same problem. You might want to check some of the other post's.
