Technically, the big tow and Off-Road packages have a lower final drive ration of 3.357:1, while the non-big tow package has a final drive ration of 2.937:1.  According to www.nissanhelp.com, the max towing capacity is still 9400 for the SE and LE.  A CL III hitch is nomally rated to 6000 to 6400 lbs Max Gross trailer weight.  The average "joe" is normally going to be towing a boat or trailer, so the CL III is fine.  If your looking at towing 8500 lbs or more, you should reconsider and get a 3/4T.

Just got back from the dealer down the road. THe Titan with big tow does not have any additional coolers or radiator fans than my LE without big tow. I also read the towing manual that Nissan has available. The Titan XE & LE without big tow can tow up to 7200lbs with the proper hitch. The SE without big tow can tow 7300lbs with the proper hitch. Dont ask me why their is a difference and the dealers wont know either, gotta call Nissan on this one!

I read somewhere that the lower big-tow ratio of 3.357:1 is equivalent to a GM 4.10. With that said does anyone know what the non big-tow ratio of 2.937:1 would be equivalent to? I haven't seen any comments on the transmission gear ratios. I guess it could be figured it out from there. Does anyone know of anybody getting an even lower gear ratio due to larger tires and lifts? Do they even make them. I am considering the 8" lift with 35" tires. I am very happy with the stock power but am worried about adding the big tires would hurt my performance too much. I was also looking at a locker of some type for the rear due to my Titan being only 2WD. Any words of wisdom or comments would be greatly appreciated?

Newbie seeking guidance.

The tow package gets you a bigger battery, tranny cooler, tranny temp gauge, different final drive, wired and ready for trailor brakes, and the hitch. The truck is only a half ton so I dont know what they guy up there was talking about a 3/4 ton.

Just a guess, but I think the 2.93 would be close to a GM 3.42

What makes the towing hitch ratings higher? Say, what is the difference between a class 3 and the class 5 hitch? Are they stronger? Thicker metal? Sorry to sound like a dufus but towing is new to me!

To my  understanding the big tow package includes the rear end not only with different gears but is a heavier dana rearend.
