I think "fugly" is a little harsh :) I thought it really enhanced the looks of the truck.
As for adding protection to the truck I think it would definitely help in a low speed accident. Anything over 30 your going to have major front end damage anyway. In fact my last truck, a GMC 92 4x4 x-tra cab I rear ended a Nissan Sentra at about 30. I bent the hood, fenders and wiped out the grill but was able to drive it home. The car wasn’t so lucky, I totaled the car and he had to be towed. 5K in damages to my truck so I doubt having a bush guard in the front could of made it any worse.
This bush guard if very solidly mounted to the frame and has nice rubber pads that make pushing another vehicle a real option in an emergency. It also would prevent most parking lot mishaps, like a car backing into the front bumper or stray carts.
