Hey guys

my uncle has an 04 titan, broke it in properly, has about 6000 miles on the clock now. He was towing his trailer a couple weeks ago, and the rear end started to make noises, he took it in, and they said the rear end had to be replaced. It's been at the dealer for like 25 days now, he has been driving alittle mitsu rental, it's pretty sad, lol. He is pretty pissed and wants to get it lemon lawed. I was just wonderin, whats the word on the street about the rear end problems? Apperently it's got to be pretty big, all the parts have been on backorder for along time, thats why it's just been sitten at the dealer?

Pretty vague problem.

Can you be more specific than "the rear end has to be replaced?" There are no recalls, TSB's to my knowledge regarding problems in the rear end. Just the usual run-of-the-mill stuff like the radio fades, rotors are bad, etc.

Also - there's no break-in period. You can tow from day 1. I have pulled up-to 7,500 pounds already and absolutely no problems - don't even know anything is back there.

Also, since he wants to get it "lemon lawed," what other recurring problems has he experienced that Nissan has failed to fix, per that law.

Im not really too sure about the specifics of the problem, he just said it was making a really bad noise and he had to take it in. The dealer looked at it and said the rear end had to be replaced, wasn't much more too it really. I was kinda surprised those dana units are pretty tough.

As far as the lemon law stuff, his wife is taking care of that, she is a lawyer that happens to deal with crap like that. I was pretty sure the problem had to be recurring, however she told me that if the vehicle is in the dealer shop for more than 30 days, they can lemon it. Im no lawyer so mabye im wrong, thats what she said.

Dealer takes a look, says, "It needs to be replaced," and no specifics? Wow. Sounds like a bad communications issue there.

I haven't had one ounce of trouble out of my 04, and I tow 2500lbs frequently in the summer. But somethings not right!  Question: Why would you put an aluminum, finned diff cover on an 05 when the 04 is running the very same diff?????

Me too, but I'm just playing along   Don't you wish all nephews were as nice as this... looking after their uncle's vehicle problems (LOL!) ??  

Originally - I was going to use the example -- "That would be like me going to a proctologist and saying my rear-end is broke and accepting a "we need to replace it" without a cause/diagnosis," but decided to take it lite. 

What the heck.. I'll play along for awhile.
