After reading about the problems some people were having I decided to change my rear end fluid to synthetic on Sunday afternoon. Silver fluid came out along with large chunks of my gears. Took it back to the dealer and showed what came out. He ordered a new rear end. Called me back to let me know that it would take about three weeks. Today (two days later) the rearend showed up at the dealer and they installed it. It was a 2005 with the synthetic fluid and the "fancy" cover. With that being said.. Here is what I noticed. About two months ago I noticed when accelerating on the sand road that I live on the "SLIP" indicator light started coming on. It never came on for about 5500miles. After reading the owners manual, I did not think there was anything wrong. It say to " adjust your driving accordingly". Since I was on a sand road I didn't think much of it. NOW I do. The light does not come on now. I have tried to make it come on. I doesn't under any of the normal conditions of driving. This is just my thoughts... If the spider gears and other parts around it started coming apart, this would let one tire spin then the traction controll would take over and start appling the drake to the tire that was spinning in order to let the power go to the one not spinning. This will light up the "SLIP" indicator light. My new early warning system of a rear end failure. Hope this will help someone from getting stranded or in a wreck from the rear end locking up.

I wrote a topic the other day titled ABLS. I too have questioned the dealer about why my limited slip only works 1 out of 8 tire spins. Please read the thread for a full explanation of my problem. Right now the dealer wants to replace sensors. I'll keep you posted.

Are you guys expecting a power transfer from one wheel to the next? That can't happen as we have open diffs-BLSD is only an electronic brake for the wheel spinning-we got screwed but hey it keeps the cost down for Nissan

Electric brake or not once the new rear end was put in the "SLIP" light stop coming on the dirt road. All I am saying is that this might be an indication that the rear end is coming apart. In the chevy that I once owned, the rear end started coming apart. A piece of one of the gears got inbetween the ring and pinion gear and the differential came apart. This let the "C" clips that hold the axles in to drop out and let both axles come out and pass me in the road. It caused alot of damage and expence. If it would have happened on the interstate it would have been very bad. Just thought some people should know so that they decide weather or not to check their rear ends.

I think the "warning" is good to give if it only saves one person the headache.
