Got the first snow in Indianapolis today that stuck to the road so I
wanted to try out my new truck.
As soon as I was going 20 mph or so I got on the brakes pretty hard to
see what the slide factor was like with the ABS, sounded and felt like
you had poured the braking system full of rocks.
When I braked slow enough so that the ABS didn't have to work it felt
fine, same as on dry pavement, but when the ABS came on, holy cow
the noise and pedal reaction.
The book says there will be some noise and pedal reaction to let you
know the system is working but I have NEVER heard anything like this
before. And for those of you who might comment I just haven't driven
anything like this before, due to my career I have driven just about
every kind of vehicle that can be on public roads in every condition
imaginable.
I am assuming that since the book addresses this it is normal but even
after doing it a dozen times or so in my neighborhood, it frightened
me ever time.
On a good note it does seem to be working in the sense that I can feel
the different wheels come off and on doing their job. I just can't
believe the noise and the pedal reaction. It's HUGE.
Anyone else experienced this?

I had the opportunity to apply the safety factor of anti-locks not long ago.  I did not experience the noise you describe.  I was incredibly impressed with the "sit down" factor that my truck showed.  When I said stop it appeared to know what I wanted before I did. The truck literally sat down on the road and stopped without any slide or jerk.  Saved itself.

This chick loves her Titan.

The pedal thump could be lessened woth no ill affect. I don't care to feel it I just want it to work. I have not had any noise with using the ABS in any of my Nissans.

One time I got on my Rodeo's brakes too hard on a wet off ramp and it scared the &%$#$ out of me...It sounded and felt like I was running over railroad ties...I was told that was the ABS doing its job...dont know which was scarier, the sound of the ABS or rolling out into 2 lanes of traffic (which is where I finally stopped)...I guess both were better than sliding uncontrolably into a ditch.

Sometimes the cure is not much better than the illness.

I had the same experience my first time of using the ABS brakes.  Lots of noise and shaking pedal.  Thanks Nissan for letting me know it works but a little over-kill.

I had this happen a few times over the last couple of weeks in snowy/icy weather. I was just searching the internet to see if the Titan has any known brake problems before I started fighting with the dealer.

It doesn't seem like I am pressing the brakes that hard, and I have tried to stomp on the brakes hard on purpose to recreate the noise but have been unable to . I pulled into the parking lot this morning and when I hit the brakes to stop I got the noise again. When does the ABS engage? Does it sense that my truck is not stopping or that it is sliding somehow?
