It seems everytime I pull out into heavy traffic where you have to get going fast to keep from getting runover the traction control kicks in when my inside rear tire breaks traction. Then it shuts down the engine power and/or brakes the rear wheel and puts me in a dangerous situation.
Is it possible to disable this control? My mustang had a override button you could push to disable it when you wanted to mess around some.
Anyone?
Thanks,
DD

Do you have VDC? If so, there is a button below the A/C controls that turns it off.

If you don't have VDC you're out of luck. The system is the system...

Well there's no button down there below the air conditioner button that has VDC on it. All I see is the "Tow" button and hazard triangle button.
Looks like I'm stuck with it. I guess I just have to put it in 4 wheel drive when I want to pull out fast onto a busy highway.
Thanks,
DD

Smokin Joe- VDC is Vehicle Dynamic Control. I think it comes with the off road package. However, I bought my Titan with both the off road package and the tow package and Nissan didn't include the VDC. I heard the VDC was incompatible with the rear locking differential.

According to the Nissan Titan booklet, the VDC is part of the Big Tow pkg....My truck has it and I have the Big Tow, but not the Off Road.

According to what I have read on the Nissan site. The tow package is not available with the XE version. So if the VDC comes with the tow package, then it would not be available with the XE either. I wonder why you have to have one of the fancier versions to include the tow package? Unless that dealers set it up that way so that you would have to spend a lot more money on a SE to be able to pull heavy loads. My XE is a 4x4 with off road package and it is only rated to pull 6500 lbs. I do have the "tow" button for the tranny though. So the only difference I can see would be an trans. oil cooler and a temp gauge for the dash. Correct me if I'm wrong.

The '05 Titan Book I have says that VDC is part of the side airbag package. It also says that VDC is not available with the off-road package or on XEs. Dirtdobber is also correct in that the big tow package is not available on XEs. I'm not sure about the '04s but I would think they would be similar. Below is what comes with the '05 Big tow package on Nissan's web site.
Big Tow Package (SE and LE Only) |
|
• Class IV receiver hitch
• Additional 7-pin wiring harness plug
• Trailer brake controller pre-wiring under instrument panel
• Heavy-duty battery (710 CCA)
• Lower final gear ratio (3.36:1); similar to 4.10:1 on a 4-speed automatic
• Extendable tow mirrors
• Transmission temperature gauge
• Increased tow capacity
SE: Requires Trac Package (4x2 only). In addition, SE Rockford Fosgate Package or SE Popular Package is required. |

I have an SE with VDC, It’s part of the big tow package. I can turn it off when I want but now that I’m use to it I really like it. Saves on tires and it might just save me one day when I’m not playing attention. The only time I would even recommend turning it off is playing around or really, really icy or muddy conditions in 4WD. The rest of the time it really works well.
Anyway you say it puts you in a dangerous situation but if you didn’t have VDC the only difference is your tire would be spinning like mad and still wouldn’t be going anywhere.
I tried flooring it in the rain with VDC on and you could really feel the computer cutting the power. I then tried accelerating as fast as I could with VDC OFF and it was near impossible to keep form spinning. I really feel the difference in maximum acceleration from VDC ON/OFF is minor and unless your at the ¼ track it's not going to make a difference.
The point is if you’re pulling out in front of traffic to where your VDC is making it dangerous your cutting it too close.
