It depends some on the trailer. For a normal type trailer (sub
5000 lbs or so) you do not need to do anything with the big tow, except
plug in. If you towing a large trailer, you may have to have a
distribution hitch.
I believe the big tow has a 7 pin round plug. Smaller trailers
are 4 pin flat, maybe 5 if the trailer has hydraulic brakes. You
can find plug in adapters on-lin and in many marine stores etc.
The brake controller "option" is more than lights, and is needed for
very heavy trailers only. Better integartes the brakes and
dynamics for VERY heavy loads

My Titan came with a 7 pin round connector. I assume your's did too. If your trailer has a 7 pin round connector (about 1.25" diameter) it should plug right in. You can buy adapters that go from 7 pin round to 6 pin round (about .75" diameter) or 7 pin round to 4 pin flat at your local auto parts store. I have an adapter that I bought at Kragen that goes from 7 pin round to both 6 pin round and 4 pin flat. It's handy having only one adapter to fit almost every trailer.
If your trailer has electric brakes you have to install a trailer brake controller. I found the pigtail for this in my glove box. It plugs into an existing plug under the dash on the left side of the steering column. All you have to do is wire the pigtail to a trailer brake controller (found at your local auto parts store) and plug it in.

If the trailer doesn't have brakes then you can just plug and go
The connector under the dash is for the trailer brakes. If your trailer doesn't have brakes, don't worry about it. If you plan to connect a trailer brake controler, those of us that managed to find the connector will be happy to help you. If you still can't find it I'm sure someone at your local dealer would be able to help.
If you are new to towing, the best advice I have is take it easy and use your gears.

Your trailer brakes are electric so when you use a trailer brake controler, as you apply pressure to your brakes it activates the tailer's brakes. The better controllers have a manual switch on them so you can activate the trailer's brakes without using your truck's brakes.

My 05 XE CrewCab came with a hitch and a round plug. Does that mean I have the Big Tow package as many here keeps refering to. I did not see anything on the window chart about Big Tow. I bought my truck 9 days ago and love it. Canteen Green with 6CD changer and nerf bars. Wife left 2 days ago with truck to visit her parents in Piggott, AR. I cant wait for her to get home in another week so I too can drive it..
I now realize because of size of outside mirrors, I dont have BigTow package. I guess the reciever hitch is what is related to as a Class III. Maybe about 5000 lbs of towing capacity. Dont think I'll ever tow anything even up to that amount.
