Went out to start that trustworthy truck this a.m. - Key would not turn! Not quite sure why - Thought maybe steering wheel was locked - Seen that on other cars/trucks. But no amount of playing with the steering wheel while trying jiggle the key helps.
Of course, I can't even get the truck into nuetral now, as the shift lever won't move unless the key is turned.
Has this happened to anyone else? Any ideas before I have this towed?

I know the key has a chip in it, if something was wrong with it I assume it would still turn but not crank...not sure tho...I'd call the dealership first.

Thanks - I thought about the chip too. And my wife did put a snow encrusted key in yesterday!

A 'snow encrusted' key, and you're in New York? What is it -- about -3 up there in the morning? This may sound completely obvious, but do you think sub-freezing temps and water-turned-ice in the ignition as a result of a snow encrusted key might be a factor?

It'll crank just fine/beatifully with the wrong chip - right until you drain the battery. It won't start, however.

Not sure if this is the same problem that you've been having but I have had two other nissan trucks and they ALL have the same problem. Every once in a while for no reason at all the key's just don't work. Usually i just have to play with it for a while. I have a 1991 Nissan SE 4x4, a 96 Nissan 4x2 (which I have since given away), and now of course my 05 Nissan 4x4.

Actually - Jimb was right - Snow melted into the ignition & froze - Took 2 days before the temperature got warm enough & then it started right up

Actually you can get it into neutral without the key working. At the forward end of the console (I ass u me you have a floor shift) there is a little circular cover. Pry this puppy off and there is a release mechanism that will let you get the shifter out of park. The procedure is in the owner's manual, but I can't remember where.
