Hey Guys! I wanted to say that these Titan website's are a great resource for information. In addition, I have been researching vehicles for the past three years and the Titan is hands down the best truck that I came across. I just recently purchased my "GunShip" 4x4 SE and LOVE IT. The current modification includes and single in/single out MagnaFlow muffler 18". I kept everything else stock--hell there is already 3" single pipe coming out...and want to keep my "Gunship" a Sleeper for the rice burners. I'll take some pics and post them asap. The sounds is sweet!

My question being, I have been filtering through the forums and can't seem to close in on a type of oil that I should use for the truck. I see a lot of information and Mobile 1 10w30 and 5w30. The O.M. states to use the 5w30, so I'm going to stick with that unless the 10w30 has an added benefit. Also, oil filter recommendations?

Second question, I notice a lot of talk about the rear diff. being low on lub....now what type of gear oil should I use---should the lub be at a low level? Moble 1 also make a product for such a purpose...just requesting further details on these items prior to performing the oil change.

Once again, this is a great site for information and I thank you guys for any information that you can provide me in answering my questions.

'04 Off Road:

Thanks for the info.. I looked up the Royal Purple diff lub 75w90 (I also saw this on another posting with a good review). With regards to the "How to" yes, please feel free to send me information on how to check/fill the diff end unit. Any input is appreciated.

To check the level there is a top plug that is on the diff cover you need a 3/8 drive ratchet and extension just put the extension in the square plug and take it out turning left.the fluid level should be level with this hole just dip your finger in to see if it is low or not. to change make sure you take out the top plug first this will allow it to drain easier and it is also where you re-fill the diff. there is another plug that looks just like the top one on the underside of the pumpkin just put a drain pan under and take the plug out. wipe the plug off cause there is a magnet on it to collect any metal shavings . put a little pipe dope on the threads (not really necessary) it doesnt leak without it . and put the bottom plug back in . then all you have to do it re-fill it with the new lube it took approx 2 qts for the front and back 4 qt total just fill it till it starts seeping out of the top hole then put the plug back in and your done

I really don't thing brand of oils changes anything, just the grade. To me, motor oil is motor oil. No brand has a clear cut outstanding science to make me choose just that one and everybody else sucks. I use Quaker State for now. Next time I"ll probaly use Penzoil. I like to keep a variety of flavors.

I just went through the whole rear end thing. I have an 04 but since the rear end ate itself, I now have an 05 rear end (with a nice pretty aluminum cover). Nissan is putting in 75w 140 synthetic fluid. It will take just over 2 pints I think. Got into the discussion with the maintenance guys and they were told from nissan to put in 10w30 in the engine here in Southt Carolina. It just doesn't get that cold. Hope this helps with the decission. Happy trails!!

Thanks for details on the rear end change. With regards to the oil.....it's all the same to me....I change my oil every 2,500 miles. So I figures, frequent changes=clean oil. Topping that off with the fact that I don't beat on my vehicles, I think all will be fine. Although, I will check the fluid levels in the diffs. So all would agree with the Royal Purple?

I'm also doing some research on the Volant intake system. Pros/Cons?

Thanks again guys!

***Update***

Welp, I changed the oil today and replaced it with Castrol 5w30 with a K&N oil filter. Also, checked the front and rear diff. levels and all was well. I was shocked that the O.M. stated 6.5 qrt of oil, as my truck required 7. Nonetheless, I was please to not find any problems. Thanks again guys for the help.
