I recently bought a new 2004 Titan Crew Cab. The salesman was new and not very familiar with the product, and when he explained the shifter, he told me that the right side of the gate was for manual shifting and the left side was for complete auto. Not doubting him and not seeing any complete explanation in the owners manual concerning OD. I drove the truck for several weeks in the 4th gear position thinking that this was correct. Poor gasd mileage caused me to go to the dealer to have the truck checked. An appointment was to be made, and I was called by the service manager several days later to make it. When I told him my problem, he asked if I had it in overdrive. I told him I didn't know anything about OD on the vehicle, and told him what the salesman had told me. He advised me that he wasn't familiar with what side of the gate I should have the shifter in, but if I drove at about 40mph and shifted from right to letf which ever side gave the lowest rpm was OD. After trying this I discovered that the shift indicator shows being in Drive when in the correct position. The owners manual says nothingf about OD position and I was upset that a service Mgr couldn't answer my questions, as well as the poor information by the salesman. Although I love the truck, this has certainly soured me on the care shown by Nissan, both by the dealer and the poor information in their manual.
